Divisibility Rule of 2

The divisibility rule for 2 states that any number with the last digit of 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 will be divisible by 2. Or simply we can say that any even number is divisible by 2. If the number is not an even number, it is not divisible by 2.

Illustration: From the following numbers, find the numbers which are divisible by 2.

456 ,791, 824 Solution: We can check it by just looking at the last digit. If the last digit of the given number is 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 then the number will be divisible by 2.

As the last digit in 456, 824 are the same as given in the above list of numbers, Hence these numbers are divisible by 2.

But 791 is not divisible by 2 as it is an odd number.

Illustration: Check which one of the following numbers will not divisible by 2.

                 12456, 5858588, 9696900, 457587, 1245696

Solution: As the numbers 12456, 5858588, 9696900, and 1245696 are even numbers, hence these numbers are divisible by 2. Also, 457587 is an odd number, so it is not divisible by 2.

Illustration: Which of the following numbers are divisible by 2?

                  - 12458, - 548687, 585, 1021021

Solution: As - 12458 is an even number, so it is divisible by 2. The rest of the numbers are odd, hence these numbers are not divisible by 2.
